Astrological Musings

September 2017

Mother Nature is fighting back. We’ve neglected her and taken her for granted too long. And now she is letting the whole world have a piece of her mind. This has been especially true since the total solar eclipse on August 21.

As of the first week in September, there were 137 wildfires burning across 7.8 million acres in the United States. This is triple the ten year average of 2.25 million acres of fire destruction per year.

Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma flooded Houston and Florida. Dozens of people died. There has also been extensive flooding in Asia, principally in India and Bangladesh. Thousands of people died. Golf ball sized hail pelted Spain, damaging cars and buildings and killing livestock.

There was an 8.5 earthquake in Mexico. Small tremors are constantly being detected and measured in Southern California.

All of this Earth activity, in some senses, is a material reflection of the social aspects we experienced earlier in the decade with the Uranus-Pluto square. I believe it is also related to the Jupiter-Pluto square we are currently experiencing. In transit, a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction is sometimes referred to as “the bubble that burst.” So a Jupiter-Pluto square is definitely part of a destabilization process. Jupiter is the biggest planet revolving around our Sun. Pluto is little bigger than an asteroid. Jupiter represents expansion. Pluto represents concentration and contraction.

The Jupiter-Pluto square is also manifesting as political unrest in our country. This past summer demonstrations brought old political issues to the forefront of our consciousness. How we chose to resolve these issues will have far reaching effects on our country and it’s standing in the world. This will play out over the next six months as our country’s chart (representing our national consciousness) continues to wrestle with the August 21 total solar eclipse that aspected it within one degree.

By the end of September, we are back to only three retrograde planets (there are almost always at least two retrograde at any given time) and Jupiter and Pluto will no longer be forming a square aspect. Jupiter will move into Scorpio mid-October. With Neptune and Jupiter both in water signs for the remainder of 2017 and much of 2018, I interpret that to mean that our hurricane and water related troubles are not going away any time soon. Water damage is insidious and difficult to gauge in the first assessment. It can continue for months and worsen over time because it takes so long for everything to dry out. Dampness and standing water are perfect places for infectious diseases to take hold and spread, especially in heavily populated areas. Mold will continue to grow until it can be stopped. This can cause insidious long-term health issues for people stuck in moldy homes.

I also won’t be surprised if the stock market or real estate market start gyrating in mid to late October when the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces. Anyone remember Alan Greenspan’s expression “Irrational exuberance?” This combination of four planets could very well have that effect on the nations’ psyche. At the very least, over confidence, inflation, and bubble are words we might hear more frequently.

That said, Saturn and Uranus will be in a friendly trine aspect throughout October, November, and December. This could have a quieting and stabilizing effect on everyone’s psyche, on the earth’s activity, and on the markets.

At the end of December Saturn will change signs and move into the Earth sign of Capricorn. In May 2018 Uranus will change signs and move into the Earth sign of Taurus. That is when I believe the real Earth changes will start happening, particularly with respect to the Earth’s crust. I suspect this will be especially true after Saturn conjuncts Pluto near the end of 2019.

Earth changes will become a focal point for humanity in the coming years. The solar eclipse on August, 21, 2017 started a cycle of big changes that will touch every part of our lives, our society, our country, and our planet; especially here in North America. These changes will vigorously continue through the next total solar in North America on April 8, 2014. This will be a 4.5 minute eclipse (the one in August was 2 minutes long) running South to North and cutting through our country from Austin, TX to Montpelier, Vermont.

Until the 2024 eclipse in North America, there will be two total solar eclipses in the South Pacific, Chile, and Argentina in 2019 and 2020, and another in Antarctica in 2021. Keep an eye on these regions too. Now is the time to be sensitive to Mother Earth’s messages because our very lives depend upon it. In reality, they always did; but we stopped listening when we turned to technology and away from nature. Now she is demanding that we pay attention to her. Now we must reconcile technology with nature so that they are in harmony.
