In May we will really start to feel the effects of the many planets moving from water and earth signs (nurturing emotion and physical expression) and into fire and air signs (passionate emotion and mental/ intellectual expression). It is no accident that technology, ChatGPT, and AI are dominating news headlines right now.

Towards the end of the month, Saturn joins Neptune and goes into Aries. Aries is a fire sign and very different in nature from Pisces. This change of signs could feel jarring at first as we adjust to the new energy. This is just our first taste of Saturn in Aries because it retrogrades back to Pisces in September, before returning to Aries in February 2026, where it will stay until April 2028. The last time Saturn was in Aries was in 1997-1998.

The conjunction of Saturn and Neptune happens approximately every 36 years. The last time Saturn and Neptune formed a conjunction was around 1989 to 1990. Based on historical data, this conjunction is experienced as eras of revolution, dissolution of ideas and formation of new ideas, and the revealing of things which are hidden—all Neptunian themes. This is a period associated with pandemics which is both a Neptunian and a Saturnian phenomenon. And it is associated with changes in leadership, collapse of governments and boundaries, realignment & reordering of boundaries and borders, and reconstruction of governments—all Saturnian themes. An interesting example of these themes is present in the historical analysis of Russia’s government, particularly in the last 150 or so years, which has reflected the Saturn-Neptune conjunction with a change in either their leadership or government structure or both approximately every 36 years.

Shortly before the last Saturn- Neptune conjunction, Reagan rescinded the Fairness Doctrine in 1987. It was then around 1989 to 1990 that cable news took off and the World Wide Web was founded for the general population’s use, bringing us disparate opinions 24/7 without the benefit of balanced and fact or data-based analysis of these opinions.

It was also during this time the Berlin Wall fell, and Germany was reunited while the USSR collapsed, and most former Soviet bloc countries broke away to become independent. An Exxon Valdez oil incident galvanized the political environmental movement when an Exxon tanker spilled 11 million gallons of oil in the environmentally pristine Prince William sound in Alaska. The US was involved in the Persian Gulf War and invaded Panama, deposing Noriega. It also corresponds with a recession brought on by the Savings and Loan crisis.

Aries is the original “sorry, not sorry” sign. It pushes through and promotes its own agenda. But over the next two to three years that we experience Saturn conjunct Neptune in Aries we can expect it to be a period for conducting difficult conversations (Saturn); addressing long term grievances, grief, and anger (Aries); and generating deep healing (Neptune). To be truly effective, this requires that we find our purpose (Saturn) and our authentic voices (Neptune) so that we can shine our light and fire (Aries). In addition, it is important for us develop laser-like discrimination and critical thinking (Saturn) and to personally express ourselves in our own words (Aries). Yes, we can still be open to a general agreement or consensus (Neptune) without letting others, including AI or propagandized media, speak for us (Aries)
