This month I want to make everyone aware of some planetary trends that will be playing out over a longer arch of time that I usually write about in my quarterly report. I feel that these planetary aspects could greatly affect the economy and social mood of the country in the coming months.

Transits by outer planets start to be felt well in advance of an exact aspect. This is because these planets take a long time to orbit around the Sun, so the magnetic pull they exert on the Earth is felt for a sustained period of time. When two outer planets form an aspect, the effects are multiplied.

Starting at the end of this year and continuing on through October 2019, Jupiter and Neptune will be in a square aspect to each other. Jupiter and Neptune are usually very friendly with each other. However, the two planets will be connected by a tense 90 degree aspect at this time. In addition, in the autumn of 2019, Jupiter and Neptune will form a loose mutable cross with the US’s natal Mars-Neptune square. Talk about a lot of tension!  And with Neptune involved in two places, it will be very difficult to pin down the cause or source of the tension. As is usually the case with outer planet transits, multiple issues will surface.

This configuration of planets can increase the chances of exaggeration and things tending to get blown out of proportion. Both Jupiter and Neptune rule oil, so I suspect we’ll see gas and energy prices increasing or fluctuating wildly. Jupiter also rules international trade. This is a dynamic that could lead the economy into an inflationary cycle in 2019.

Saturn will also be moving forward into later degrees of Capricorn during 2019 and move into an opposition with the US’s natal Mercury, generating a mindset of scarcity and loss among its citizens. This thinking may become reality when Pluto catches up to Saturn and forms a partnership that puts the two outer planets into an opposition to natal Mercury. This will happen in early 2020 and the social mood in the country could spiral into great negativity.

On January 12, 2020 transiting outer planets Saturn and Pluto will be in an exact conjunction at 22 degrees of Capricorn. Why is this date important? First of all, Saturn and Pluto do not come together all that often (a cycle of about 33 to 38 years), which is probably a good thing. Let me quote the astrologer Robert Hand from his book “Planets in Transit”: “During this transit you will have fewer resources available for doing what you want…. structure in your life will change significantly, but not suddenly or without warning…. It is rather like the inevitable conclusion of a situation. During this transit some things will come to an end or an old order of life will cease. On a metaphysical level, this transit means that factors are now being incorporated into the structure of your life that will bring about evolution and growth. This process involves getting rid of old structures…. On a material level, this transit often causes financial problems or other kinds of shortages. Sometimes government or other officials will impose burdens that greatly restrict your freedom of movement…. One danger of this transit is that Pluto can signify tremendous evolutionary energies, which Saturn restricts….  When the suppression erupts, it may be dangerous, explosive, quite violent.”

My second reason for pointing out this date is that this conjunction is within 2 degrees of opposing the natal Mercury in Cancer of the USA’s chart. That is a very tight orb, making this conjunction all the more significant for the American people. In a nation’s chart, Mercury is a reflection of the collective consciousness of its population. Mercury in Cancer loves family, home and hearth, and tradition. The USA’s natal Mercury opposes its natal Pluto.  This means that the mindset is also one of stubbornness and intractability to the point of being self-sabotaging. It is often a very argumentative aspect. Insecurity, anxiety, meddling, and possessiveness are also features of this aspect in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn. All these qualities will be magnified by this significant transit.

The transiting Saturn-Pluto conjunction is also within 5 degrees of a conjunction with the USA”s natal Pluto. This orb is close enough that the effects of the country’s Pluto return will be felt very strongly. Saturn is a faster moving planet than Pluto, so Saturn will move ahead throughout the 2020 and reach the opposition to the USA’s natal Pluto first. This will reinforce the energy described by Robert Hand in my 4th paragraph. We will not get any rest from this energy of change. As he says: “During this transit some things will come to an end or an old order of life will cease.”

Transiting Pluto will exactly oppose the US’s natal Pluto on February 21, 2022. It will repeat the exact opposition on July 10, 2022 and December 28, 2022. This will be the country’s first Pluto return and it is hard to predict precisely how this will play out. Suffice it to say that Pluto is not a planet that passes quietly or easily. Even the least conscious person in the country will feel this aspect in some way.

All the Pluto/ Saturn aspects I’ve been talking about are taking place between the USA’s second house, which is this house of earned income, and the eighth house, which is the house of other people’s money or money that is acquired indirectly (inheritance, insurance, and so on). The United States is heading straight into a perfect socio-economic storm. I am pointing out this date to give everyone some time to prepare, in whatever way you see best. We are already feeling the effects because transiting Pluto is currently at 19 degrees of Capricorn, well within orb for the conjunctions with natal Mercury and Pluto.

By the time Pluto and Saturn are conjunct and opposing the USA’s natal Mercury, the time for warnings will be at an end. We’ll be in the eye of the storm. This will be a time of deep transformation on every level and for every walk of society. Both our outer and inner worlds must change to make way for meaningful, substantive transformation. If we don’t start moving in that direction now, we could lose some great opportunities when Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto pass thorough Aquarius in the coming years.
